This program will be presented virtual via Zoom webinar.
Are you a student thinking about a career as a geologist? If so, join us for an opportunity to get academic and career advice from Bud Davis, Senior Geologist at Drummond Carpenter. After a presentation, students will have the chance to ask questions about coursework, internships, college and certificate programs, and anything else about becoming a successful geologist!
Parents, teachers, and mentors are also encouraged to participate.
Joshua “Bud” Davis is a Professional Geologist (PG) who works in the private environmental consulting field. Dr. Davis received his BS in Geology from the University of Florida in 2012, and a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017. Dr. Davis’s PhD focused on the geophysical characteristics of continental rifts and tied real world observations from rifted margins to results from numerical simulations. Dr. Davis performed postdoctoral research at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and provided visiting scientist consulting services to the oil and gas industry throughout his academic research. Following these academic endeavors, Dr. Davis has spent the last 6 years modeling earth processes to help with environmental remediation issues. These modeling efforts include groundwater & surface water flow, contaminant transport, sediment erosion & transportation, and radionuclide risk assessment. Dr. Davis also conducts geophysical surveying to help constrain the subsurface architecture of complex contaminated sites. His work often relies on statistics, risk-assessment, data analytics, and machine learning to provide novel insight into complex problems. His hobbies include smoking meat, vegetable gardening, and football analytics.
